30k worth of kit for Eerste Rivier Women’s Rugby Team
We surprised the winning team of co-founder Siya’s birthday giveaway with a delivery of adidas kit worth more than 30k.
The Kolisi Foundation co-founder, Siya Kolisi, decided to celebrate his thirtieth birthday, uplifting aspiring communities by giving back. In doing so, the Kolisi Foundation partnered with adidas South Africa in donating 30K worth of adidas merchandise to a team in a #ImpossibleIsNothing Youth Day competition. To enter the competition, all sporting teams were encouraged to submit a video highlighting why the Kolisi Foundation should choose their team. The focus was on capturing the essence of the adidas slogan “Impossible is Nothing” and the Kolisi Foundation’s motto “Remember the one, one by one.”
After seeing plenty of amazing videos and inspirational stories on sporting teams who use sport to uplift their communities, the Kolisi Foundation chose the winning team – Eerste River Women’s Rugby Club.
We were looking for “one” team that was leaders and representatives of their community on and off the field. The Eerste River Women Rugby Club ticked that criteria. Their passion and drive emphasised the competition hashtag #ImpossibleIsNothing.
The Kolisi Foundation was genuinely inspired by the entries of so many of the other teams using sport as a vessel to uplift their communities. Therefore, the Kolisi Foundation wanted to honour and encourage the other teams that entered the competition. They managed to support most of the teams that entered with a bit of a surprise kit. A total of twenty-five additional teams received kit or clothing items. Knowing that starting with one team, amplifying their platform and resourcing them can have a more significant ripple effect. We hope that this initiative inspired companies and organisations to resource community sports within their surroundings and get involved. To see the value and acknowledge the power that sport holds to inspire, uplift and transform communities.
Our Kolisi Foundation motto, “remember the one, one by one”, drives our daily actions. And we hope it will also encourage people who want to get involved in their communities but don’t know where to start. The problems around us can often feel overwhelming and big. But to focus on the one thing that you and I can do and change, one by one, is important.
